Yes, Babywearing Consultants Are Real. Here’s Why You Might Want One

Hear me out: a babywearing consultant is a real human with training, credentials and a happy stash of slings. Not just someone giving vague advice. And yes, in Europe and North America it’s still surprising to many parents that such a job exists.

What do you actually do?
A certified babywearing consultant is trained to support you and your baby through every step of babywearing. They help with:
Choosing the best carrier for your body, baby’s age, lifestyle (wrap? SSC? ring sling?)
Demonstrating safe, comfortable fitting (no strangulation, I promise)
Teaching you positioning for comfort, posture, and safety - keeping knees in M‑position, airway clear, etc.
Problem-solving unique needs: fussiness, reflux, multiples, preemies, postnatal recovery
Offering follow-up support, joining community meetups, or lending in-person demos
So yes, I exist - and I help you find sanity in the straps.
Why parents don’t realize consultants are a thing
The profession is well-established in parts of Europe (e.g. Germany’s “Trageschule” schools, France’s portage associations), but in North America it’s newer and more decentralized. There’s no midwife-like visibility yet. Some certified consultants train via the Center for Babywearing Studies or local schools. But most families learn too late (or get stuck with poor online tutorials).
Everything is personalized; it’s not general parenting advice
Babywearing consultants focus only on wearing: biomechanics, age‑appropriate adaptations, safety compliance (like TICKS rules), hip‑healthy positioning (supported by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute). They aren’t handing out general sleep or feeding tips, they’re sling specialists.
What does a session look like?
In‑person: you try wraps, slings, SSCs; the consultant adjusts straps, tweaks fit, guides you verbally and hands-on.
Virtual: camera angle coaching, video feedback, step-by-step tying help.
Follow‑up: checking in by e-mail if baby grows or you upgrade to a toddler carrier.
Why it’s worth it
Save time and money (avoid buying multiple carriers hoping one works)
Avoid frustration and discomfort (good to adjust before you invent a sling knot from scratch)
Get confident fast- you’ll learn to wear in daylight and nightlight
Myth‑buster, consultant edition
Not just “someone at a baby fair”, they often hold certifications or training, liability insurance, and follow safety standards
Not just for “attachment parenting elite”, consultants help every kind of parent: working, first‑time, multiparous, back‑to‑work moms, you name it
Not just about fussy newborns, toddler wearing, travel hosting, or situational carrying (like hiking, twins) all benefits
In short: babywearing consultants = sling sherpas. They guide you from tangled wrap chaos to walk‑out‑the‑door confidence. If the word babywearing felt mysterious, hiring a consultant might feel magical.
Why Haven’t You Heard of Us Before?
Here’s the thing: most parents don’t even know babywearing has a name—let alone that there are trained consultants who can make it simple and safe. That gap is exactly why babywearing doesn’t “work” for so many families. Parents try, get overwhelmed by straps and safety worries, and give up.
And that’s where babyloop comes in. We created it to strip away the confusion, make carrying intuitive and ensure safe positioning every single time. No second‑guessing, no juggling four different carriers, no late‑night YouTube rabbit holes. Just a tool that makes babywearing finally click.
So if you’ve ever thought, “I wish someone would just make this easier” - that’s literally what we’re doing.
